Pro Boxer Jose Sanchez Turned Actor

Jose appears in two roles in "Divine Comedy," two heavenly one-act plays produced by the Storm Theatre Company and Blackfriars Repertory Theatre.

Growing up as the son of a professional baseball player in Puerto Rico, Jose witnessed firsthand the accolades received by a real-life hero. With his decorated background as a Marine and professional boxer, Jose is attracted to characters with authoritative power. However, playing Segundo in "Saint Felix and His Potatoes," followed by Balthasar in “The Coach of The Holy Sacrament," he explores characters with grace.

"There is an innocence to my character Secundo that I can relate to," said Jose. “These roles require discipline and the ability to push yourself, and that's where my former training comes very handy.”

Jose has been performing with The Storm Theatre for 10 years, most recently as The Guard in "The Surprise". Other theatre credits include Jerry in "The Cleaners," Private Jonas in "Antigone," Piqouiseau in "Marius," and Adam and Corin in "As You Like It." He has also performed with the Lovinger Theatre as Kilroy in "Camino Real" and Warren Turkle in "One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest."

Jose has appeared on television shows "Law & Order," "The Sopranos" and "30 Rock." On the big screen, he has portrayed roles in "God I Miss You," "Latin Assassins," "The Wannabe," "Falling," "Overnight Success," "Unsavory Characters," and the independent feature, "The Brothers Bloom."

See Jose perform in “Divine Comedy” running Sept. 30 through Oct. 22, at Grand Hall. Tickets can be purchased at www.SmartTix.com.
